Roles and Permissions
The NeonNow Admin app uses four roles to control what a member can do in an organisation and which products they can reach. This page is the canonical definition of those roles.
A role is assigned per organisation membership, not globally. The same account can be an Org Admin in one organisation and a Campaigner in another — the role always describes what you can do in that organisation.
These Admin-app roles (Org Admin, Admin, Operations, Campaigner) are a different system from the CX contact-centre roles (Agent, Supervisor, Manager) that are provisioned in Amazon Connect. They are separate systems and do not map to one another. This page only covers the Admin-app roles; for contact-centre roles, see CX User Management.
The Four Roles
| Role | Purpose | Product access |
|---|---|---|
| Org Admin | Full control of the organisation, including organisation-level settings and user management. | Both CX and Outreach |
| Admin | In-organisation administration and user management, without organisation-level settings. | Both CX and Outreach |
| Operations | Contact-centre operations. | CX only |
| Campaigner | Bulk SMS and email campaigns. | Outreach only |
Org Admin
The highest role. An Org Admin can manage everything within the organisation, including:
- Organisation-level settings (name and point of contact)
- Inviting, managing and removing users in any role
- Both the CX and Outreach products
Admin
An Admin can do most of what an Org Admin can do except change organisation-level settings. Admins:
- Can manage users (within the limits below)
- Can access both products
- Cannot change organisation-level settings (such as the organisation name and point of contact)
Operations
The role for people who run the contact centre. Operations members:
- Can access the CX product
- Cannot see Outreach
- Cannot manage organisation-level settings or other users
Campaigner
The role for people who run campaigns. Campaigners:
- Can access the Outreach product
- Cannot see CX
- Cannot manage organisation-level settings or other users
Which Products Each Role Can Use
A member's role determines which products appear for them in that organisation:
| Product | Org Admin | Admin | Operations | Campaigner |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CX | Yes | Yes | Yes | No |
| Outreach | Yes | Yes | No | Yes |
Operations members can use CX, Campaigners can use Outreach, and Org Admins and Admins can use both.
Role Hierarchy and Invite Rules
Roles form a hierarchy, with Org Admin at the top. One rule keeps role management safe:
- You can only invite or assign roles at or below your own. An Admin can invite Admins, Operations and Campaigners, but can't invite or promote anyone to Org Admin. Only an Org Admin can create another Org Admin.
See Managing Roles for how this plays out in the user table.
Last Org Admin Protections
To stop an organisation from being left without an administrator, the last Org Admin of an organisation is protected:
- The last Org Admin can't be removed from the organisation.
- The last Org Admin's role can't be changed to a lower role.
- A member can't leave an organisation while they're its last Org Admin.
- An account can't be deleted while it's the last Org Admin of any organisation (see Preferences).
To carry out any of these actions, first promote another member to Org Admin so there's more than one.
Beyond These Roles
These roles govern access across NeonNow. Inside each product there may be further, product-specific capability detail:
- Outreach capability detail per role — see the Outreach Roles and Permissions.
- CX contact-centre roles (Agent, Supervisor, Manager) are a separate system — see the CX documentation.
